National Law Journal Names Cari Stinebower a 2019 Government Relations Trailblazer
October 1, 2019
Winston & Strawn Partner Cari Stinebower has been named a Government Relations Trailblazer by the National Law Journal. This inaugural list profiles attorneys who are agents of change.
The publication highlights Cari’s career and her trailblazing work investigating money laundering in the government sector including bringing down cartels in Colombia and working with the DOJ and Senate Intel Committee to draft the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act. Since moving into private practice, Cari now helps companies build compliance programs and stay on the right side of the law. She also works with the government through associations to keep partnerships going and to find new trends or ways to track assets. “The public-private partnership is important. The idea is to make the U.S. and global anti-money laundering systems more secure,” she said.
As for the future of anti-money laundering, Cari says that the legal landscape has evolved. “It’s a more complicated world because a lot of it is now in the virtual space. There will be increased sophistication in money laundering with the youth of digital currencies and blockchain to engage in those acts, as well as supply chain transparency.”
