Laura Petroff Discusses Employment Strategies for 2012 at Helpmates Seminars

Winston & Strawn labor and employment partner Laura Petroff, based in the firm’s Los Angeles office, spoke on employment strategies at a seminar hosted by Helpmates Staffing Services. The seminar was held on September 14, 2012, in Orange, California and on September 19, 2012 in Los Angeles.

Ms. Petroff's presentation, titled “3rd Quarter Employment Law Update,” focused on the following topics: 

• Don’t take the bait – avoiding the traps in the interview/hiring process;
• EEOC and the restrictions placed on employers in conducting background checks, DMV, credit reports, etc. as screening tools;
• The latest and greatest from the California and Federal Courts, agencies, and legislators, including developments on social media, wage and hour, arbitration agreements, discrimination issues, retaliation, and more;
• How do the U.S. Supreme Court’s latest rulings impact California employers – impacts from the Immigration and Affordable Care Act cases

Ms. Petroff has considerable experience representing employers in the consumer and luxury goods, cosmetics, financial services, manufacturing, professional services, health care, and retail industries, among others.
