Maria Kostytska, of counsel in Winston & Strawn's Paris and Washington, D.C. offices, spoke at International Law Institute's 2012 International Investment Agreements and Investor-State Arbitration on November 27, 2012.
Ms. Kostytska taught a seminar titled "Jurisdiction Over Investment and Investor." In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of bilateral investment treaties and other agreements with investment related provisions. This course dealt with issues arising out of these developments and focused on; (i) international standards for the treatment of investments and (ii) various methods for resolution of investment related disputes, including mediation, contract renegotiation and arbitration. The course covered topics of interest to lawyers, investors and government officials responsible for drafting, negotiating and interpreting investment agreements and resolving investment disputes.
Maria Kostytska concentrates her practice in international arbitration and litigation. She has represented Latin American and Middle Eastern sovereign states and private companies in ten investor-state arbitrations under the ICSID, UNCITRAL, and ICC rules. She represents clients in a variety of commercial arbitrations under the ICC rules.
