Winston & Strawn Co-Executive Chairman Jeffrey Kessler was featured on an episode of The Intersection Podcast, where hosts Michael Sitrick and Sallie Hofmeister speak with America’s great legal minds about the behind-the-scenes media strategies of some of the world’s highest-stakes legal cases. In the episode, Jeffrey shared his origin story and journey to becoming lead counsel in some of the most high-profile and complex antitrust and sports law cases in the country, provided insight into several of his recent cases, and offered tips and advice to new lawyers starting out in their career.

Jeffrey discussed the House vs. NCAA settlement and the media’s role in helping expose the fact that everyone in this system was making money except the athletes. A fight that started 10 years ago, Jeffrey said the settlement is creating an entirely new system for the NCAA to compensate its athletes. Jeffrey also noted the equal pay fight for the U.S. Women’s National Team in soccer as the case where media played a key role in shaping the opinion in favor of his client, recalling the stadium chanting “Equal Pay” during the final game of the World Cup in Paris, which was no accident but a carefully developed effort to educate the public on the issue. Jeffrey also discussed his representation of the unions in the Tom Brady, Ray Rice, and Latrell Sprewell cases.
