October 1, 2010
Winston & Strawn earned a 100 percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) 2011 Corporate Equality Index survey. This is the third consecutive year that the firm has earned top ratings. The Corporate Equality Index is a report card that rates Fortune 500 and other major firms on a scale from zero to 100 percent on seven key indicators of fair treatment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered employees and people with whom they do business.
The key indicators that HRC rates include the following areas:
- A written non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation in its employee handbook or manual.
- Health insurance coverage to employees' same sex domestic partners.
- Diversity training that includes sexual orientation and/or gender expression in the workplace.
- Respectful and appropriate marketing to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT) and/or provides support through its corporate foundation or otherwise to LGBT or AIDS-related organizations or events.
The HRC is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender political organization in the country.
