Winston & Strawn is proud to have earned Mansfield Certification Plus status for the fourth consecutive year. Achieving Mansfield Certification Plus status is a significant accomplishment that recognizes Winston’s commitment to increasing diversity in senior leadership positions throughout the firm.

Mansfield Certification is awarded to firms that adopt the Mansfield Rule which requires law firms to affirmatively consider 30% women, racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQ attorneys, and lawyers with disabilities as candidates for partnership, senior lateral hires, and leadership and governance roles. Earning the “Plus” status indicates that in addition to exceeding the baseline certification requirements, Winston has achieved at least 30% diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of leadership and governance roles.

Named for Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to practice law in the United States, the Mansfield Rule was designed by Diversity Lab to significantly increase the representation of diverse lawyers serving in law firm leadership roles

In keeping with the firm’s longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, Winston & Strawn was one of 41 early adopter firms that piloted Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule in 2017. According to Diversity Lab, early adopter firms have increased the racial and ethnic diversity of their leadership teams by 30 times the rate of non-Mansfield Rule firms.

Winston is currently participating in the Mansfield 5.0 evaluation that runs from July 2021 to July 2022.
