Dan Webb Represents William Cellini at Trial
September 26, 2011
Winston & Strawn firm chairman Dan Webb was quoted in a September 25 Chicago Tribune article titled "Longtime power broker faces trial in Blagojevich scandal." Webb represents William Cellini, who is charged with conspiring with former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Cellini is scheduled to go on trial on federal fraud, conspiracy and attempted extortion charges on October 3, 2011.
Webb called the government's case "extraordinarily weak," stating that the government will not be able to prove that Cellini ever asked Thomas Rosenberg directly for money (according to the charges, Cellini agreed to help extract campaign money from Rosenberg, a principal at Capri Capital). Webb also stated that the government's case suffers for a motive, as Cellini would not have financially benefited from the campaign contribution.
