Dan Webb Quoted on Koschman Death Investigation
April 23, 2012
Winston & Strawn chairman Dan Webb was quoted in the Sun Times’ April 23, 2012 article titled “Koschman judge names ex-U.S. Attorney Webb special prosecutor."
The article discusses Mr. Webb’s recent appointment to special prosecutor for the re-examination of the 2004 death of David Koschman. Mr. Koschman, 21 at the time, died after being punched by Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko, a nephew of then Mayor Richard M. Daley. Attorney Locke Bowman, representing Koschman’s mother Nanci Koschman, said that he was extremely gratified at the appointment of Mr. Webb.
Mr. Webb said that he will be looking into the death itself, as well as the handling of the case by the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney office. “I’m going to go where the facts take me,” said Mr. Webb, adding “I don’t know how much time it’s going to take.”
Mr. Webb has a reputation as one of the best litigators in the country. He has been involved in many high-profile cases, including leading the Operation Greylord investigation into judicial corruption in Cook County. This is the fourth time that he will serve as a special prosecutor.
