Winston & Strawn Co-Executive Chairman Dan Webb sat down with CBS2 Chicago and “Chicago Tonight” to discuss his role as Special Prosecutor in the Jussie Smollett case as well as the findings in the court-ordered release of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Summary Report.

Dan and his Winston team were brought into the case to reinvestigate Smollett, accused of staging a hate crime against himself, as well as State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s prior handling of the matter. The team’s efforts resulted in a jury verdict of five class 4 felony charges against Smollett and the court-ordered release of the Summary Report, which outlines substantial abuses of discretion and operational failures by Foxx’s office.

“Public officials—lawyers—have a code of professional responsibility that requires us to be honest,” Dan said in his interview with “Chicago Tonight,” “. . .and the issue [is] whether an elected public official. . .[should] be allowed to lie to the public and lie about important issues related to a function of her office.”
