Coberly Featured for “Good Work” by Illinois Super Lawyers
February 2012
Winston & Strawn partner Linda Coberly was recently recognized as a "Super Lawyer" in the area of appellate practice in Illinois Super Lawyers (February 2012 edition) and was featured in the publication's article called "Good Work," highlighting her pro bono efforts.
Ms. Coberly, a partner in Winston's appellate and critical motions practice, devotes a significant amount of time to immigration work, in conjunction with the National Immigrant Justice Center ("NIJC"). NIJC is a program of the Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, for which Ms. Coberly serves on the board of directors. She has represented NIJC as an amicus curiae in several cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, helping the organization to advance its legal and policy objectives. In addition, she and other Winston attorneys work closely with NIJC in providing representation to immigrants in a variety of circumstances, including those who are seeking political asylum in the United States. She explained, "These are often people who are fleeing really difficult conditions in their home countries and seeking asylum in the United States, trying to build a life here. To be able to work with them and help them is really, really rewarding."
