Charlie Papavizas Discusses U.S. Coast Guard’s New Rules on Offshore Cranes
October 1, 2013
Winston & Strawn partner Charlie Papavizas was quoted in the Offshore Engineer October 2013 “Voices” article. The article asked how the U.S. Coast Guard’s new rules on offshore cranes will affect business in the Gulf.
“It is not clear that the proposed rule will have a significant impact on MODUs, OSVs, and floating off-shore facilities since the newer specifications and standards for cranes the rule seeks to adopt are already in wide use – although expanding the number of crane certifying organizations as proposed by the Coast Guard should be a helpful change and seems to have worked well with respect to other types of vessels,” Mr. Papavizas said.
