Since the Ukraine crisis in 2014, U.S. sanctions have targeted Russian airports, whilst newer restrictions rolled out by the Trump administration have imposed restrictions on air travel to Cuba.
Allegation of electoral interference during both the 2016 U.S. presidential election and the 2018 midterms mean that sanctions have been ramped-up in the interim, but events such as the 2018 FIFA World Cup proceeded with little impact.
