Cardelle Spangler Provides an Insider's Look at the USWNT Fight for Equality on Bloomberg Business of Sports Podcast
December 17, 2020
Chicago Partner Cardelle Spangler recently discussed the partial settlement that she helped secure as a co-lead partner with a Winston & Strawn team in the ongoing legal battle between members of the World Cup-winning U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and the U.S. Soccer Federation over equal treatment and pay. Cardelle spoke with Jason Kelly and Mike Lynch, hosts of the Bloomberg Business of Sports Podcast.
“We first filed charges of discrimination against the EEOC…in 2016,” she explained. “And this fight is still going on. But this is a big step forward in resolving the working conditions claims. For your listeners, that means claims around charter flights, playing surfaces like grass versus turf, and hotel accommodations. Women have taken a big step forward in being treated at least equally to the members of the men’s national team.”
Cardelle goes on to discuss how she got involved with the case, the details of the ruling, and the next steps for this matter.
