At the invitation of the Paris Bar Young Lawyers Association (Union des Jeunes Avocats à la Cour de Paris), partner Annie Maudouit had the honor of speaking at the conference “Black Robes, Women’s Destinies: 125 Years of Women Lawyers in Paris,” held at the Maison du Barreau de Paris.
Alongside journalists, researchers, and committed lawyers—including former Paris Bar President Christiane Féral-Schuhl—the discussions highlighted a defining reality: the entry of women into the profession 125 years ago was not a natural evolution, but a hard-won achievement.
Annie shared her reflections on these 125 years of history, emphasizing that the journey of women at the Bar cannot be reduced to a simple chronology of dates, but rather represents a succession of resistance, commitment, and collective strategies.
Celebrating 125 years of women lawyers in Paris means acknowledging the progress achieved—while candidly recognizing the path that still lies ahead.
