Angela A. Smedley Named to Crain’s New York Business’ List of Notable Women in Sports 2022
August 11, 2022
Winston & Strawn Partner Angela A. Smedley was named to Crain’s New York Business’ list of Notable Women in Sports 2022. Nominated by their peers, this year's group of 30 women “have exceeded expectations, broken barriers, and helped redefine a traditionally male-centric industry.”
Angela is recognized for her work representing professional sports unions, athletes, and agencies in litigation including contract disputes, tort litigation, and antitrust matters. Amongst many high-profile clients, Angela currently represents a Nigerian monobob athlete in a gender-discrimination case against the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation and the International Olympic Committee, as well as media company Relevent Sports in a federal antitrust lawsuit against FIFA and the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Outside of professional accomplishments, honorees were chosen for their commitment to mentorship, philanthropy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Angela is co-chair of both Winston’s Black Lawyers Network and CEASE initiative, a program devoted to doubling the firm’s percentage of pro bono hours spent fighting for racial justice. A dedicated leader, she was also named one of Winston’s Mentors of the Year in 2021 and 2019.
