The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) recently updated its code of practice on conducting privacy impact assessments. Privacy impact assessments are a tool that companies can use to identify and reduce the privacy risks of particular projects they might do. They assessments are intended to reduce the risk of the misuse of personal information and to help companies design more efficient and effective processes for handling personal data. The code aims to provide a clear and straightforward overview to guide organizations through the privacy impact assessment process. The ICO says that it can be used alongside existing project management and risk management methodologies, or as a simplified process in its own right.
