Privacy Shield Website: One Week and Counting
Blog
August 11, 2016
On August 1, 2016, the website operated by the U.S. Department of Commerce to facilitate the implementation of the Privacy Shield went live. It provides additional information for companies about the Shield, and a mechanism for companies to sign up to participate. As we have written previously, the Privacy Shield was designed to replace the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework. The Department of Commerce stopped accepting new submissions for self-certification under the Safe Harbor, and, as of October 31, the Department will stop accepting re-certifications. It will, however, continue to maintain the list of Safe Harbor participants.
TIP: Companies interested in learning more about the Shield can listen to Winston’s eLunch on the topic.
