Among the many actions taken, or in process, in response to the Macondo well incident is a renewed focus on the inspection of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units like the Deepwater Horizon. On December 29, 2011, the U.S. Coast Guard requested public comment on draft internal guidance to inspectors of key systems, personnel and training aboard MODUs. The guidance focuses in particular on a MODUs dynamic position system or DPS. Comments are due by January 30, 2012. A public meeting to discuss the comments will be held at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C. on February 9, 2012.
