April 8, 2016
Winston & Strawn has joined 53 other law firms for the inaugural Women in Law Hackathon, a “Shark Tank”-style pitch competition aimed at generating innovative ideas to close the gender gap. Los Angeles Partner Eva Davis is Winston’s representative in the effort, which was created by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Stanford Law School and Bloomberg Law.
Since early April, Ms. Davis has worked with a team of five high-level partners from other firms, a Stanford Law student, and two advisers to devise a plan to boost the recruitment, advancement, and retention of experienced women in law firms. She also will be participating in the live pitch event on June 24 at Stanford Law School, where all teams will present their ideas to a group of high-profile judges. Charlotte Partner Kobi Kennedy Brinson represented Winston in the initial stages of the Hackathon initiative.
The top three teams selected by the judges will grant their prize money – $10,000 (first place), $7,500 (second place), $5,000 (third place) – to nonprofit organizations that are helping to advance women in the legal profession. Bloomberg Law donated the prize money, and Diversity Lab is contributing an additional $5,000 for a crowd favorite winner to be selected by the audience at the pitch event.
