Winston Funds Water Well Project in Ethiopia

December 2, 2015
More than 200 people in the Baekel community in Ethiopia now have access to clean water with the recent completion of a well project funded by Winston & Strawn. The firm’s 2014 Earth Day Campaign raised more than $10,000 for charity:water, which aims to bring clean and safe drinking water to every person in the world. It took 18 months to construct the Baekel well, during which time charity:water partners bought supplies, and the Baekel community contributed labor and formed a Water Committee to maintain the project for years to come.
This project was spearheaded by WISE – Winston Initiative for Sustainable Environment – an interdisciplinary group of attorneys and staff who continually strive to implement best practices to help reduce the firm’s carbon footprint and promote environmental responsibility. In addition to raising funds for charities that promote sustainability, the WISE Committee has implemented a number of other successful recycling and energy-saving projects since its formation in 2009.
