Winston & Strawn invited women law student organization members from the University of Chicago, Northwestern, UCLA, and USC to attend viewings in our offices of the national Campus ERA Day program on April 15.

This third annual Campus ERA Day program, sponsored by the ERA Coalition, featured a lively panel discussion and Q&A conducted live at Hunter College in New York and presented via videoconference to students across the country.

ERA Coalition Co-President and CEO Carol Jenkins moderated the panel, which featured Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Heidi Schreck in New York and actress Patricia Arquette, Virginia House Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy, Nevada State Senator Pat Spearman, and Winston Chicago Office Managing Partner Linda Coberly via videoconference. Linda chairs the ERA Coalition’s Legal Task Force and has been heavily involved in Winston’s efforts to achieve ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

Office Managing Partner Eva Davis hosted the Los Angeles office viewing, and attendees at both events had the opportunity to network with members of Winston’s Women’s Leadership Initiative affinity group.

The program provided an update on what has happened with the ERA over the past year as well as next steps in the effort toward ratification. Other highlights from the event included a visit from Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, who announced a House Judiciary Committee hearing on April 30 on the pending bills to remove the ratification deadline that passed in 1982.
