Recently, the Maryland General Assembly voted to override Governor Larry Hogan’s veto of House Bill 1, known as the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (HWFA). The HWFA requires employers with 15 or more workers to provide paid sick leave to employees who work at least 12 hours per week. Employers with 14 or fewer employees are required to provide unpaid leave for employees who work at least 12 hours per week.
