Steve Schulte is a senior partner in the firm’s litigation department, where he represents a wide range of clients in commercial and tort litigation. He has considerable experience in civil litigation, business disputes, product liability, technology litigation, construction-related lawsuits, bankruptcy, banking, and insurance claim matters.
Specifically, Mr. Schulte has successfully represented clients in numerous multimillion dollar disputes, including: the City of Chicago in a construction lawsuit relating to Millennium Park; IFC Credit Corp. in lawsuits with FTC and various state attorneys general; Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in private lawsuits and investigations by numerous states; Harry Rosen, Inc. in a declaratory judgment/breach of contract lawsuit affirmed on appeal; VMS Realty Partners in a real estate trial; CDC Mortgage in real estate litigation; Keck, Mahin & Cate in a partnership bankruptcy trial; Klaff Realty and Developers Diversified Realty in real estate bankruptcy litigation; MATRA, Inc. in litigation regarding the construction of the People Mover system at O’Hare International Airport; F.H. Prince & Co., Inc. in an insurance agent contract lawsuit; Cozzi Iron & Metal, Inc. in an insurance premium dispute; Hendrickson Suspension in a fidelity bond claim; Swenson Process Equipment, Inc. in an intellectual property/trade secrets arbitration; Ford Motor Co. in a number of construction-related lawsuits; Transaction Management Technologies, Inc. in a computer software lawsuit, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. in the Chicago “Flood” case involving hundreds of millions of dollars of claims; Cozzi Brothers in an employment contract arbitration; and Utilities, Inc. in a trial against two former employees for breach of contract and duty of loyalty.
He also represented Black & Decker, FMC, Whiting, Swenson Process, Texaco, BASF, Tate & Lyle, and Philip Morris in a number of product liability cases. Other clients he has represented include Procter & Gamble, Jefferson Smurfit Corp., Jervis B. Webb Co., Continental Bank (now Bank of America), Connecticut Bank & Trust, Swenson Technology, Inc., and The Boler Company.
Mr. Schulte has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer and a member of the International Who’s Who of Product Liability Defense Lawyers. He earned the highest rating available under Martindale-Hubbell.
Honors and Awards
Mr. Schulte has served on the Committee for Certification and Specialization of the Illinois State Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Schulte has been an elected commissioner of the Glenview Park District from 1989-2003, including serving as President in 1992-1993 and 1999-2000. He is also actively involved in several charitable fundraising activities, including being the founder of the Greater Organization for the Less Fortunate (G.O.L.F.). In addition, he works on pro bono matters for Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, Chicago Legal Clinic, and Cabrini Green Legal Aid.
Mr. Schulte received a B.A., magna cum laude, from St. Louis University in 1973, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from St. Louis University Law School in 1976.
