Advertising, marketing and entertainment partner Liisa Thomas, based in Winston & Strawn's Chicago office, spoke at the Children's Advertising & Online Privacy Conference 2012 on April 3.
This is the second annual CARU conference on the west coast and took place in Los Angeles. At this conference, panelists examined domestic and global challenges to self-regulation in the area of advertising to children including social media, mobile marketing, and food and beverage advertising. Sessions included in-depth discussions on the proposed changes to the FTC's Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Ms. Thomas, who serves on the planning committee of the event, spoke on the panel titled "Like This, Tweet That -- Social Media & Advertising for Children Done Right." This session addressed how to ensure compliance with relevant rules when inviting children to participate in social media and discuss best practices.
