Advertising, marketing and entertainment partner Anthony DiResta, based in Winston & Strawn's Washington, D.C. office, spoke at American Credit Association (ACA) International's 73rd Annual Convention held in Hollywood, Florida. The theme of this year's conference was "Venture Deeper."
On July 19, 2012, Mr. DiResta spoke on the panel titled "Strategies to Deal with Governmental Investigations Involving Your Business and Collection Practices." This presentation addressed the rising volume and escalating nature of complaints submitted to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general about debt collector activities – and the investigations commenced against debt collectors and purchasers. Specifically, Mr. Diresta addressed the players involved in these investigations, the potential shift in the regulatory framework given the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and strategies for effectively handling the requests for documents and information. He will be joined by Keith Wier of Bush & Ramirez, LLC.
