Larose Discusses Risks and Opportunities of Investing in Municipal Bonds
Larry Larose, a partner in Winston & Strawn's New York office and head of the firm's financial restructuring practice in the restructuring and insolvency group, discussed the risks and opportunities of investing in municipal bonds on the January 21 edition of Bloomberg Radio's "Taking Stock."
When asked about the potential increase in municipal bond bankruptcies, Larose stated: "I think any municipality or authority that is considering using bankruptcy as a tool to work out their problems is in for a long road…and some of the purported positives that people see in bankruptcy on the municipal side really have questionable legal underpinnings, particular this notion that cities can blow out their pension and union obligations willy-nilly using the bankruptcy code."
