Michael Elkin, managing partner of Winston & Strawn's New York office, was quoted in a February 9, 2010 New York Law Journal article titled, "Winston & Strawn Continues Expansion of N.Y. Office." The article reported on the hiring of four new restructuring and M&A attorneys for the New York office who will also significantly bolster the firm's national practices in those areas. The firm's recent expansion was noted in several other media outlets, including The National Law Journal, The Deal, Law.com, Law360, and Reuters.
As reported by the NYLJ, joining the firm from Dewey & LeBoeuf are partners Lawrence A. Larose, who acted as lead counsel for MBIA Insurance Corp. in its restructuring effort last year, and Samuel S. Kohn. Sarah Trum, an associate, also joins the Winston team from Dewey. In addition, William J. Grant has joined the firm's New York office mergers and acquisitions practice after a 40-year career with several major law firms, including most recently, as a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
Over the past two years, Winston & Strawn has aimed to expand the reach of its New York office, which has grown to nearly 200 attorneys and is expected to continue to grow significantly. In November, the newspaper noted, the firm added eight lawyers from Nixon Peabody, including the head of its private equity practice, Dominick DeChiara.
"We are going to continue to very aggressively be looking for other opportunities," Elkin said. |
