Our firm culture, we've been told, distinguishes us from other large law firms.  It's a culture well-known for outstanding client service, superb legal work, and generous community involvement.

When we make hiring decisions, we look for lawyers who will thrive in this environment.  Strong academic credentials are important, including law journal and extracurricular efforts.  Past career experience counts too.  We want motivated, imaginative people who will work hard for our clients, and work well with others on the team.

“The partners at Winston are good listeners. Not only do they listen to the summer associates, they also listen to the people they work with. This provides for great training and fosters a positive work environment.”

But beyond book smarts and a high grade point average, we look for other traits.  Law students who have joined Winston have best described those qualities: "Every attorney I interviewed with was a 'solid' person. They were down to earth, friendly, and easy to talk to." "Everyone I spoke with on campus was honest and approachable." "The atmosphere of their office confirms Winston's reputation as a relaxed, friendly, and hard-working place."

When you join our summer associate program, you'll meet law students from across the country who share your interest in the law. You'll have a chance to work with many of the profession's most gifted attorneys, be a team member on client projects, learn about the community, and have some fun. The experience will be fast-paced, practical, and relevant. Ours is a firm that attracts and retains some of the most celebrated "go-to" lawyers in the legal profession. Governor James R. Thompson, Illinois' longest-serving governor, served as Chairman of Winston & Strawn from 1991 to 2006. The firm's current Chairman, Dan Webb, a former U.S. Attorney, is widely regarded and respected for his exceptional courtroom skills. Our attitude and core values have helped us win top rankings in the Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms for the past nine consecutive years.
