Winston & Strawn antitrust partners Paul Gruffin, based in the firm's San Francisco office, attended the ABA Section of Antitrust Law's 57th Annual Antitrust Law Spring Meeting held April 21-23, 2010 in Washington, D.C.
This year's Spring Meeting, featuring a faculty of top antitrust lawyers from U.S. and foreign enforcement agencies, in-house legal departments and law firms, academics, and economists, covered cutting-edge antitrust and consumer protection issues. There were separate international, litigation, and consumer protection/privacy tracks for attendees, and ethics credits also available.
Highlights from this year's agenda included:
- Fundamentals of antitrust, consumer protection, and antitrust economics
- Breakfasts with the Deputy Assistant Attorney Generals of the U.S. Department of Justice, the State Antitrust Enforcers, and the Bureau Directors from the Federal Trade Commission
- A mock jury trial demonstrating the deliberations of the mock jury and offering an opportunity for questions of mock jurors, with presentations from some of the country's most experienced antitrust litigators
- The traditional "Roundtable Conference" in which top antitrust enforcement officials engage in a wide-ranging, spirited discussion of current "hot" topics
