Winston & Strawn Partner Speaks on Recent SEC Proposals Designed to Shore-Up Economy

A Winston & Strawn financial services partner participated on a webcast seminar titled "The SEC's Reaction to the Credit Crisis: Overview and Analysis" held on August 12, 2008. It was presented by West Legalworks.

This webcast discussed the SEC's recent emergency order to block naked short selling of stocks in certain companies that is the latest in a series of moves meant to shore up the economy. The SEC has issued a series of rules and proposed several others in the last few months to rein in the growing financial crisis started by the subprime mortgage debacle. Many Wall Street firms believe the proposals giving the SEC the power to supervise investment banks is going  beyond the Commission’s regulatory mandate.

This panel discussion was comprised of SEC administrators and law practitioners who explored the Commission’s recent actions to stem the tide of the financial crisis, and assessed the impact on today’s economy and tomorrow’s investment outlook.
