Daniel Meagher is an associate in Winston & Strawn’s London office.
Mr. Meagher advises upon complex commercial disputes, and has advised multi-national companies and states in relation to disputes proceeding under various international arbitral rules, relating to different regions including the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia and Africa, and arising from a variety of sectors including oil/gas, mining, telecommunications and financial services.
Mr. Meagher has also advised as to other strategic aspects of multi-jurisdiction litigation, including obtaining injunctive relief in the English courts and enforcing judgments and awards worldwide.
Mr. Meagher is a New York-qualified attorney and English-qualified solicitor.

Investor-State and Investor-State Entity Arbitrations
- Mining Company v. Central Asian Government
Investment treaty UNCITRAL arbitration commenced by multinational mining investor alleging expropriation of a mining investment, representing respondent host state. Claim valued at approximately US$400 million.
- International Oil and Gas Company v. African State Entity
Ad hoc international conciliation between an international oil and gas company and African state entity concerning the triggering of a renegotiation clause of a production sharing contract.
International Commercial Arbitration
- Shareholder A v. Shareholder B
This multi-billion dollar shareholder dispute arose under a shareholders’ agreement governed by New York law. The UNCITRAL-rules arbitration was seated in London.
- Owner of Mixed Use Property v. Mediterranean Luxury Goods Retailer
DIAC arbitration between a luxury goods Mediterranean retailer and an owner of large mixed-use development in the UAE concerning construction delay and resulting harm. The claim was valued at USD $30 million.
- Owners of Petrochemicals Plant v. Owners of Refinery
ICC arbitration commenced by foreign investor-owners of petrochemicals plant against a local state-owned refinery, arising out of failure to supply feedstock. The claim was valued at USD $100 million.
English Court Litigation
- Individual Shareholder v. Emerging Market Oil/Gas Company
Advising defendant in proceedings brought by an individual claiming to have purchased shares in a large oil and gas company, but claiming a failure in the printing and delivery of the share certificates.
- Defrauded Corporate Investor v. Individual
Representing corporate investor in its recovery of approximately US$30 million which had been invested in a Ponzi scheme. This included successfully obtaining a freezing injunction against the defendant who had orchestrated the scheme in order to assist in the recovery of funds.

Education
Mr. Meagher received an M.A. with honors from the University of Cambridge (Clare College) and an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law.
