Mr. Carey is a litigation associate in the firm’s London office who concentrates his practice on patent litigation and counseling. He has particular experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. Mr. Carey advises clients on patent enforcement strategies and product launch strategies for Europe, and has acted for clients in proceedings before the Patents County Court, High Court (Patents Court), and Court of Appeal of England & Wales. Mr. Carey has assisted in the prosecution of cases before the Opposition Division and Technical Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office. In addition, Mr. Carey has assisted in the coordination, preparation and conduct of proceedings before many European national courts and Patent Offices.
Education
Mr. Carey received a B.Sc., Hons, in Physiology from the University of Bristol in 1996. He received his CPE and Legal Practice Course (LPC) qualifications, both with distinction, from the University of Westminster, School of Law in 2000/2001, and he received a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law & Practice, with distinction, from the University of Bristol in 2004.
Speeches and Publications
Mr. Carey has spoken and written on topics including, various aspects of patent litigation, procedure and strategy in Europe, the Enforcement Directive, the Anti-Piracy Regulation, paediatric extensions to SPCs, and proposals for a unitary EU patent/unified patent litigation system.
