Michael Bergerson is a litigation associate in the Chicago office. His experience includes securities litigation, white-collar criminal defense, patent litigation, and antitrust matters.
Most recently, Mr. Bergerson was a member of a small team that represented a retail securities trading firm through multiple investigations by various financial market regulators and that defended the client against charges of fraud and short selling violations in a trial before the Securities and Exchange Commission. Other recent matters in which Mr. Bergerson has participated include a white-collar criminal trial before a jury in the Northern District of Illinois and an appeal of a white-collar criminal conviction to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Bergerson is also an active participant in the firm’s pro bono program in both state and federal courts.
Prior Professional Experience:
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Bergerson worked for three years on the Washington, D.C. staff of U.S. Representative Peter J. Visclosky, serving Indiana’s First District as the Congressman’s legislative assistant for trade, labor, steel industry, and energy issues and as staff director of the Congressional Steel Caucus. In addition, Mr. Bergerson has experience with campaign management and election law at the local, state, and federal levels.
Activities
Mr. Bergerson has been a regular contributor to the firm’s Federal Circuit Patent Decision Summaries, a weekly firm publication that includes short summaries of precedential patent cases decided by the Federal Circuit.
Education
Mr. Bergerson received a B.A. in Economics & Management from DePauw University in 2004. At DePauw, Mr. Bergerson played varsity golf and served as team captain.
Mr. Bergerson received a J.D. in 2010, cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School. He was a legal intern for the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic’s commercial law section and competed on the Notre Dame Moot Court Appellate National Team.
