Milt Buckingham is a partner in Winston & Strawn’s financial services group who concentrates his practice on transactional and regulatory matters involving the asset management industry.
Mr. Buckingham has extensive experience representing a wide variety of asset managers and their investment vehicles, domestic and foreign, with particular emphasis on the structuring, formation, and ongoing compliance of management companies, hedge funds, commodity pools, and other private investment funds. He also counsels brokerage firms, end-users, and intermediaries on securities, commodity futures, and derivatives transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters.
Activities
Mr. Buckingham is a member of the Managed Funds Association and the Law and Compliance Division of the Futures Industry Association. He also is a member of the American Bar Association and of the Chicago Bar Association's Futures and Derivatives Law Committee and Financial and Investment Services Committee.
Education
Mr. Buckingham received a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Arizona in 1989, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1992.
Speeches and Publications
Mr. Buckingham has written and spoken on topics of interest to the asset management industry. Mr. Buckingham also previously was the author of “Hedge Fund Update,” a periodic feature of the Futures & Derivatives Law Report that discussed new legal and regulatory developments that affect hedge funds, other private investment funds, and their managers.
