Michael Moetell is a tax partner in the firm’s New York office who concentrates his practice in international tax matters. Mr. Moetell has extensive experience representing foreign financial institutions and other business enterprises in the tax treatment of their U.S. activities, including tax consequences of mergers and acquisitions, tax treaty issues, and expense allocation issues. He also represents U.S. multinationals with respect to the tax treatment of their overseas operations, and regularly advises issuers and underwriters on the tax aspects of international debt and equity offerings and structured finance transactions. In addition, Mr. Moetell counsels and represents clients in IRS audits and tax litigation.
Activities
Mr. Moetell is a member of the International Fiscal Association, the American Bar Association's Section of Taxation, and the District of Columbia Bar Association's Tax Section.
Education
Mr. Moetell received a B.S., cum laude, from Villanova University in 1982 and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1985.
Speeches and Publications
Mr. Moetell has published articles on taxation in Euromoney, International Tax Review, Tax Management International Journal, and Bank Tax Journal. He is a contributor to the Butterworths Offshore Guide and is co-author of The Indirect Foreign Tax Credit, a BNA Tax Management Portfolio published in 1997.
