Dan Bird is a partner in the firm’s corporate department who concentrates his practice in structured finance transactions. Prior to joining Winston & Strawn, Mr. Bird headed the structured finance practice at another major U.S. law firm. In recent years, Mr. Bird's practice has centered on asset securitization transactions, an area in which he has led the development of a number of unique financing structures. He also has extensive experience in SEC-registered offerings of corporate debt and equity securities, and in the representation of underwriters and issuers in the development and offering of corporate and municipal securities. Mr. Bird has had significant experience in public finance, particularly in revenue bond financing. In the 1980s he was one of the leaders of multifamily housing financing, assisting in the development of new financing techniques, including the first surety bond financing, first floating rate multifamily housing financings, and the first collateralized letter of credit transaction. Mr. Bird has represented underwriters in connection with more than $5 billion of tax-exempt financing. In the 1990s Mr. Bird led the representation of the RTC in its disposition of tax-exempt financed assets. These efforts resulted in the disposition of more than 250 separate bond financed assets representing more than $6 billion in financed property. Mr. Bird also has more than 15 years of experience in the tax-exempt bond mutual fund area representing John Nuveen-sponsored unit investment trusts and managed mutual fund companies.
Education
Mr. Bird received a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1969 and received a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1977.

Mr. Bird has been a frequent lecturer on topics related to tax-exempt financing and related securities law issues.
