Tony D’Auria is a litigation partner in the firm’s New York office who focuses his practice in complex commercial, antitrust, and surety and fidelity matters in the construction, banking, and health care industries.
Mr. D’Auria regularly represents North Shore — Long Island Jewish Health System, Inc. in a variety of matters. He successfully defended the Department of Justice antitrust challenge of North Shore’s merger with Long Island Jewish Medical Center. The merger ultimately created one of the largest not-for-profit hospital systems on the East Coast.
Mr. D’Auria has represented CIGNA in its successful appeal of a $35 million judgment arising out of a hotel construction project in New York, and in the successful appeal of a $30 million judgment entered in the longest civil trial in Nassau County history. He also has represented Luxottica Group S.p.A. in litigation related to its contested takeover of a major U.S. conglomerate.
In addition, he has represented Hobart Corp. in product liability matters, Flintkote Company in the defense of asbestos actions, F.J. Sciame Construction Co. in general litigation matters, Security Pacific Leasing Corp. and Credit Lyonnais Bank in general litigation matters and lease transactions, and MTB Bank in matters relevant to private banking.
Prior to joining Winston & Strawn, Mr. D’Auria served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Activities
Mr. D’Auria is a member of the board of directors of MTB Bank. He is Chairman of the Committee on Character and Fitness of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, is a member of the Cardinal's Committee of the Laity, and is past president of the Saint John's Law School Alumni Association.
Education
Mr. D’Auria graduated in 1958 from St. John’s University College, and in 1960 from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was editor of the Law Review.
