Winston & Strawn represents a broad spectrum of materials licensees, including broad scope licensees and distributors of generally-licensed material. The firm has represented individual materials licensees in hearings before the NRC and with regard to enforcement, labor, bankruptcy, financial assurance and fee-related issues. Winston & Strawn recently represented one of the first companies to receive a license for importing and distributing irradiated gemstones in the United States.

Winston & Strawn has broad experience in complex remediation and decommissioning issues associated with byproduct and source material licensees under both unrestricted and restricted scenarios including financial provisions for decommissioning, bankruptcies, and litigation with remediation contractors. The firm has helped craft innovative and economically-effective decommissioning strategies.  Winston & Strawn has advised clients on security for sources, import and distribution issues, enforcement, Agreement State matters and due diligence involving active and terminated licenses and onsite residual contamination and disposals.
