Winston & Strawn’s litigators consistently have been entrusted with some of corporate America’s most critical litigation. The strength of our firm’s litigation practice lies in our ability to take on some of the most difficult cases litigated around the world for high-profile clients and work effectively with in-house and co-counsel to create the teams required to manage large-scale litigation. Winston & Strawn has more than 500 litigators and has compiled an impressive track record in major civil and criminal litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. Our litigators have tried major jury and bench trials in virtually every significant federal and state venue, and we handle appeals before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Courts of Appeals, and numerous state appellate courts. In addition, our international arbitration attorneys have extensive experience with all of the major arbitration and international claims institutions and rules. Our litigation practice is led by veteran trial lawyers across the United States and abroad who collectively have tried hundreds of cases, including nationally acclaimed trial lawyer Dan Webb, who has been hailed as “one of the country’s most sought-after lawyers” by The American Lawyer.
"One global technology giant states, 'We have been using Winston & Strawn for years and we are expanding our use of them, they have the experience in relevant matters and the cost-effectiveness. They are the best.'" – Benchmark Litigation 2012
In Chicago, our litigation attorneys represent clients in high-profile securities, white-collar, internal investigations, intellectual property, and product liability matters on a national basis. In New York, our litigation attorneys represent clients in high-profile securities, white-collar, internal investigations, insurance coverage, and product liability matters on a regional and national basis. Winston's Washington, D.C. office has significant capabilities in the areas of white-collar and complex commercial litigation, while our litigators in Charlotte focus on environmental, employment, securities, and banking litigation. The firm’s newest office in Houston is home to nearly 40 litigators who assist clients in intellectual property, antitrust, securities, and other complex commercial litigation matters.
The depth and experience of our litigation practice is further evidenced by the fact it includes:
- More than 50 partners who have tried cases to verdict in the past five years
- 5 Fellows of The American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL); 3 Fellows of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL)
- 18 partners who are former prosecutors with U.S. Attorney's Offices in New York, Illinois, California, and other states, including two former U.S. Attorneys
- More than 100 attorneys who have been judicial clerks, working at the Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals, U.S. district courts, U.S. bankruptcy courts, U.S. tax courts, and state courts
We understand that our litigation clients have different legal and business objectives—to solve a problem, to right a wrong, to protect a product or reputation, to limit financial exposure. We work closely with clients to develop a strategy that meets their business needs. Mindful of the costs and burdens of litigation, our lawyers attempt to assist clients in resolving disputes short of litigation, if possible. However, we do have exceptional trial experience and are prepared to proceed to trial when it is the best course of action to meet client objectives. |
