In January 2008, Winston & Strawn launched our eleventh office located in Charlotte—a financial, energy, and manufacturing hub— with a group of attorneys practicing in Charlotte's Hearst Tower. Through a number of significant lateral hires, Winston has quickly grown its Charlotte presence to provide legal services to clients in a number of key areas, including corporate finance and lending, financial services, business and environmental litigation, labor and employment, and white collar defense.
Our finance attorneys in Charlotte represent financial institutions with varied financing and financing-related matters. Such matters extend from large, syndicated, cross-border, multicurrency, fully secured or asset-based facilities to smaller club syndicates, bilateral and investment grade matters. We represent financial institutions in transactions with U.S. and multinational companies in consumer, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, technology or other sectors with respect to acquisition financings, dividend recapitalizations, and working capital lines. In addition, our finance attorneys practice in supply chain finance and factoring and represent borrowers with credit facilities. Our experience also includes financings in the private equity areas, debt restructuring and workout scenarios.
Winston's Charlotte litigators represent clients nationwide. We focus on representing financial institutions in class actions, multidistrict litigation, and other high-risk litigation involving consumer claims, securities claims, truth-in-lending, and mortgage servicing in many jurisdictions. We also represent energy companies, especially utilities, in environmental lawsuits often brought by the government or citizen groups. In addition, we represent a range of clients in white-collar defense, securities and general commercial disputes.
Our labor and employment attorneys in Charlotte focus on employment, ERISA, non-competition and trade secret litigation. We advise clients on the investigation, discipline, and termination of employees; wage and hour issues; layoffs and the shutdown of facilities, including advice on the WARN Act and severance issues; harassment or discrimination complaints; employee attendance or leave issues under the FMLA, ADA, state workers' compensation laws, and ERISA benefit plans; and employment agreements, including non-competition and confidentiality agreements.
Committed to expanding in Charlotte, we recently added energy capabilities to compliment our energy litigation. Our energy team in Charlotte focus on nuclear regulatory and commercial matters.
