Michael Elkin Discusses Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against Justin Bieber and Usher on Bloomberg Radio
June 4, 2013
Winston & Strawn partner Michael Elkin spoke on Bloomberg Radio's "Bloomberg Law" on June 4, 2013 regarding a copyright infringement lawsuit against Justin Bieber and Usher over the song, "Somebody to Love."
In the interview, Mr. Elkin discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the $10 million copyright infringement lawsuit and outlines what can be expected as the court attempts to determine if the song was copied. According to Mr. Elkin, in order to prove infringement, the plaintiff would have to prove that Usher and/or Bieber's contacts had access to the songwriter's work and the songwriter's work was substantially similar to the version performed by Bieber.
Michael Elkin is the managing partner of Winston & Strawn's New York office and chair of the copyright, entertainment & digital media practice.
