McConnell Discusses Experience at Legal Aid Forum Sponsored by the White House and LSC
April 18, 2012
Greg McConnell, who serves as Winston & Strawn's pro bono counsel, was quoted in the Chicago Law Bulletin on April 18, 2012. In the article,"Settlement will help legal aid programs," Mr. McConnell discusses the legal aid forum co-sponsored by the White House and Legal Services Corp. (LSC), an agency that provides grants to approximately 135 civil legal programs throughout the nation.
At the event, Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced $20 million of the $100 million allocated to Illinois from the national multi-billion foreclosure settlement, approved earlier this month between five of the nation's biggest banks and 50 attorneys general and the federal government, will go to legal assistance programs to help borrowers facing foreclosure.
Mr. McConnell, who attended the April 17 forum, said President Obama briefly spoke at the forum, stressing his support for civil legal aid and the need for perseverance in the challenging economy.
"As someone who is charged with urging and developing pro bono opportunities for a large group of people, it's always helpful to have folks encouraging me," Mr. McConnell said. "It was interesting and inspirational."
