Winston Attorneys Speak at Kiev Arbitration Days 2014: Think Big!

Winston & Strawn attorney Maria Kostytska spoke at the Kiev Arbitration Days 2014: Think Big! held November 6-7, 2014, in Kiev. The Ukrainian Bar Association’s fourth international conference provided an opportunity for leading international experts in commercial arbitration and dispute resolution to meet with European and Ukrainian colleagues. The conference attracted arbitrators, state officials, and lawyers from Ukraine, CIS, and Europe.
On day two of the conference, Maria Kostytska, based in Winston & Strawn’s Paris and Washington, D.C. offices, spoke on the panel devoted to the U.S. and EU sanctions against Russian entities and officials. Her presentation addressed the Russian food import ban as a countermeasure to the U.S. and EU sanctions, as well as legal remedies available to private companies to address it.
Other topics at the two-day conference included:
- Arbitrability issues, in particular trade sanctions and embargoes
- Sovereign immunity from suit and enforcement, waiver and limits
- Tactics by state entities to disrupt arbitration and how to counter them
