Emerging Law in Web Site Accessibility

Liisa Thomas and Monique Bhargava of the firm’s Advertising, Media and Entertainment Law group recently published an article in the April 2011 issue of the Journal of Internet Law about the applicability of accessibility laws in the online world. Ms. Thomas and Ms. Bhargava noted that as our society has begun to rely more and more on the Internet, the American public has come to expect that the same accommodations for people with disabilities that exist in the “real” world will exist virtually as well. While the public may expect that provisions in laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will apply to Web sites on the World Wide Web, courts have not necessarily taken the same view.
