Coberly Named to The American Lawyer’s “Best Young Women Lawyers in the Am Law 200”
January 3, 2011
Linda Coberly, based in Winston & Strawn's Chicago office, was recognized by The American Lawyer as one of the "45 Under 45 – Best Young Women Lawyers in the Am Law 200."
Ms. Coberly, a partner in the firm's litigation practice and vice chair of the appellate and critical motions practice group, was noted for her representation of Grant Thornton LLP when the auditor was sued by Refco Inc. and Parmalat Finanziari SpA for allegedly aiding in the fraud that brought down each company. At issue in the suits was the expansion of liability for corporate fraud to third-party advisors. In 2009, a federal district court judge refuted the Parmalat suit on summary judgment. In November 2010, an appeals court affirmed a lower court's decision to dismiss the Refco suit.
In response to her work, Peggy Zagel, Grant Thornton's chief legal officer, said Ms. Coberly "has absolutely grabbed onto these issues and guided them from all the way through the appellate courts."
Lawyers selected for this honor were nominated by various industry sources and The Am Law 200 and were screened by an American Lawyer reporter, with input from clients and opposing counsel.
