Basil Godellas Discusses PE Regulatory Compliance at ACG’s Middle Market Insights Webinar
February 21, 2017
Chicago-based Partner Basil Godellas spoke at the Association for Corporate Growth’s Middle Market Insights webinar Compliance in a Trump Administration: What You Need To Know on February 21, 2017. The webinar focused on best practices in cybersecurity, pay-to-play regulations, and other developments, including SEC enforcement actions, and what new regulations to expect from the new Trump administration.
Presented by the authors of the “Guide to Private Equity Regulatory Compliance,” the webinar addressed a broad range of issues that affect the regulation of private equity firms.
The webinar was highlighted in The Hedge Fund Law Report’s article “Ways the Trump Administration’s Policies May Affect Private Fund Advisers” published on March 2 and Law360’s article “Trump's Vow to Reduce Regs Shouldn't Put PE Firms at Ease” published on February 24.
During the webinar Mr. Godellas said “enforcement is not going away.” He also pointed out that SEC examiners are expecting “business as usual until told otherwise.” Even if SEC examiners were not expecting business as usual, however, experts say promises of deregulation from a new administration should never be seen as an opportunity to slack.
Mr. Godellas serves as co-chair of the firm’s Financial Services Practice and concentrates his practice on representing companies in the asset management industry with respect to a wide variety of regulatory and transactional matters.
