February 4, 2016
The University of Michigan Law School’s 2016 1L Oral Advocacy Competition officially began on Tuesday, February 2, with a panel discussion presented by Winston attorneys.
Linda Coberly, Chicago office managing partner and chair of the Appellate and Critical Motions Practice; Bill O’Neil, Hiring Committee co-chair; and Scott Ahmad, a member of the firm’s Associates Committee, provided oral advocacy tips and tricks during the lunch-time presentation. Ms. Coberly and Mr. Ahmad are Michigan Law School alums.
Later that evening they attended Michigan’s annual Meet the Employers reception, which provides 1L students with the opportunity to meet lawyers at firms and corporations, learn about the practice of law, and prepare for Early Interview Week in August.
As a sponsor of the 1L Oral Advocacy Competition, an introduction into moot court, Winston attorneys will be participating in various training opportunities throughout the competition. These include one-on-one coaching sessions with quarterfinalists on March 7; judging the semifinalists during the week of March 14; and judging the final round of competition on March 31.
